2024 ACBC Committed to Care Documents Review
Within the broader biblical counseling movement there are ongoing conversations and debates regarding what it means to intervene in domestic abuse cases in a biblically faithful way. ACBC (The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) has contributed to these conversations by releasing two lengthy statements on abuse and biblical counseling to both their members and the general public under their 2023 Committed to Care initiative.
The first statement is their Affirmations & Denials and the second is their Framework and Guidelines.
To learn more about these statements and the corresponding Committed to Care initiative, click here. There you'll find copies of statements along with a series of corresponding videos created by ACBC.
As many of you know, our PeaceWorks University membership is made up of a diverse group of people helpers, many of which are connected to the biblical counseling movement in one way or another. Because of this, we received many questions leading up to and surrounding the release of these ACBC statements. In response to these important questions, we invited our PWU members to participate in two Zoom events in which Chris Moles reviewed the two statements with our members and shared some of his concerns and critiques. These review events took place in February and March 2024.
